Timothy King

Obituary of Timothy Dale King

Timothy (Tim) King passed away on September 29, 2023, of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).  He was born in Pigeon, Michigan, on July 22, 1948.  His family later moved to Hesston, Kansas where he graduated high school.  He served as a medic in the US Army and was wounded in Vietnam, receiving a Silver Star for bravery.  He graduated from Kansas State University in Landscape Architecture.

He married wife Linda in 1973 and in 1974 they moved to Eugene.  He spent most of his career at the University of Oregon where he supervised landscape and grounds maintenance operations.  In 1997, Tim and Linda traveled to China to adopt daughter Laurel, giving Tim the cherished role of Daddio.  On June 1, 2023, she gave him the new role of Grampa with the birth of baby Weston.

Tim was a long-time supporter of Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, volunteering onsite and serving as a board member, including board president.

Tim faced his ALS diagnosis with grace and humor, consistently positive and never complaining.  He and Linda were particularly appreciative of the services of Veterans Administration medical staff and the ALS Association support group.

Tim is survived by wife Linda King, daughter Laurel King (Jack Foster), grandson Weston Foster, sister Nelda Miller (James) and brother Loren King (Mary Beth).  He was preceded in death by brother Wendell (Esther) and parents Donald and Thelma King.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at the Mount Pisgah White Oak Pavilion at 2:00 pm on December 2, 2023.  Donations in Tim’s memory may be made to Mount Pisgah Arboretum or ALS Association.
