Obituary of Evangela "Angie" Hopkins
The world lost an angel on May 29 when Angie gained her heavenly wings.
Angie, was born Evangla Lee on January 4, 1974 to Barbara Modine Torgerson and David Galbraith. Named after a street in Louisiana, Angie was a unique as her name.
When Barbara and Tom married Angie’s life changed. Her parents blessed her with her brother Rob and sister Tiffany
She grew up on Humboldt Hill where she made many lifelong friends. Always fearless, Angie grew up sliding on cardboard down the hill behind her house, even the berrie bushes at the bottom didn’t scare her.
She spent nights with her cousin Patty at her Grandma Phyliss’ where her grandma would let the girls wear her nightgowns so they could be like princesses, she even tied the straps to make them fit better.
Full of shenanigans, when Angie was 8 or 9 she taught Tiffany how to flip the bird at people, even though Tiffany’s hands were so small she had to told her fingers down with the other hand.
Once when Tiffany was real little they were on a road trip. The kids were in the back of the car and it was real hot. Tiffany had eczema real bad in the bend of her arm and it was raw from having no self controll when it came to scratching an itch. Angie got the ointment out of a bag and began rubbing that medicine onto what to Tiffany looked like leprosy. she held Tiffany’s scratching hand without a shred of judgment and only love. She blew on it until she got dizzy and made Tiffany laugh real hard.
In 1993 Angie set off on a new adventure to go live in Alaska with her biological father and family. David had a strong dislike of his neighbor, so he asked a younger guy from work to take Angie out and meet some people. Boy was he mad when the guy showed up and said they should stop by and see his friend right next store. And that’s where everything changed, she met Craig. In true Angie form she married him a year later in front of a few friends wearing sweatpants and Birkenstocks. Later they did have a beautiful wedding with all of their children in attendance.
In 1995 with many family members in attendance Angie earned her favorite title, mom. From then on her life was devoted to her babies. She even entered first born Chase in a little Mr. Alaska pageant. When he was nine months old, Angie got a surprise. Upon learning her step-sister was pregnant one morning, she went to a doctors appointment and found out she was pregnant as well. And in spring of 1997 Haylee entered the picture. Being a mom of two did not slow her down. She even spent a month that summer in California with both babies so she could attended Rob and Sidney’s wedding.
Madison soon joined the family and not long after the family moved to Eugene, Oregon Denali completed it.
Angie raised her children to be close and have each others backs. Even though each of her girls had their own bedroom’s growing up it was very common for them to be all together in one bed.
Paths change and they divorced, but Craig and Angie remained family to their children.
After living in California for the past few years, Angie had just moved back to Eugene to be closer to her children and be able to spend more time with her grandchildren.
On May 28, Angie had family dinner with her kids and a game of uno before passing peacefully in her sleep.
Angie joined many loved ones in heaven including her mom Barbara Torgerson and father David Galbraith, grandparents Pete and Phyllis Modine, Bill and Nellie Sanford, grandpa Mitch Torgerson and many furry family members including her beloved Zenaida who traveled back and forth with Angie between California and Alaska
