Obituary of Shirley Esther Irsfeld
Shirley Irsfeld, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 12, 2023, at the age of 93. She is survived by her children Mitchell Irsfeld and Sara Jane Lubrano, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was born to Henry and Nora Schroeder on December 1, 1929, in Marshall Minnesota, and attended West Mar and the Minnesota School of Business.
Post college, Shirley moved to Yakima, Washington to work for Hughes Air West. It was there that she met her soon-to-be husband Nicholas William Irsfeld, and they were married in June 1956. Her first son, Mitchell was born a year later. Her husband’s job with the Union Oil Company took them to Billings Montana where her daughter Sara Jane was born in February. A further job transfer sent them to Missoula Montana where her son Christopher (deceased) was born.
In 1964, the last job move landed them in Eugene, Oregon where she fell in love with green outdoors. A businesswoman at heart, she soon owned and managed the Myrtlewood apartment complex near the University of Oregon campus.
Shirley loved her garden, fishing, and the Oregon Ducks. An avid sports fan, she was a fixture at her two grandsons’ baseball games and three granddaughters’ soccer and equestrian events. She was a founding member of the Eugene Social Club and was especially fond of local ballroom dancing events.
Memorial services will be held May 19 at 10:00 AM, at the Resthaven Memorial Park in South Eugene.
