Obituary of Charles Francis Popp
Chuck Popp, age 92, was surrounded by family, when he passed away peacefully, at his home in Oregon on March 16, 2023.
Charles Francis “Chuck” Popp was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 26, 1930. Chuck was born to Frank and Marie Popp. Chuck had one sister, Anna Popp. Both his parents and sister passed when Chuck was just a teen, leaving him to join the Army at the age of 17. Chuck was stationed in Alaska and served in the Army from 1948 to 1954.
After leaving the Army, he joined the Alaska Road Commission, and was later hired by the Federal Aviation Administration. Chuck worked as a station mechanic in Wake Island, and various locations in Alaska. Chuck was last stationed in Fairbanks from 1981 until he retired from the F.A.A. in 1990, after 40 years of federal service. Chuck left Fairbanks in September of 2021, when he moved to Oregon to live with family.
Chuck was a dedicated Catholic who was well known in his church community. Chuck loved to travel, help others, and spend time with his friends and family.
Chuck is survived by his daughter Jane Bird, son Frank Popp, daughter Debi Ely, and son Brian Popp. Chuck is predeceased by his mother Marie, sister Anna, father Frank, and son Thomas Popp.
Chuck will be reunited with his parents and sister at Holy Cross Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
