Rosalie Gunter

Obituary of Rosalie Jeannette Gunter

Rosalie Jeannette Gunter was born May 30, 1938, in Longview, Washington, to Arthur Leslie Wilson and Eunice Fay Rasmussen Wilson.  She lived her entire childhood in the Longview area, mostly on the family homestead on Germany Creek Road.  She told stories of fishing with her dad in the creek and Saturdays spent baking with her mother. During high school, she was an accomplished string bass and accordion player.  After graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1956, she married Hullon Ralph Gunter who she had met at the Grange Hall, the community social center. In 1958, they relocated to Eugene, Oregon, where their daughter Della was born.  Two years later their son, Stacey was born.  Rosalie and Hullon served the community of Eugene for many years through their manufacturing and retail jewelry stores.  Generations of families now own personal jewelry from Gunters’ Jewelers.

Rosalie attended the Lutheran church as a child near Stella, WA, then Bethel Danebo Baptist, Spencer Creek Lutheran, and Bethesda Lutheran churches as an adult in Eugene.

Her hobbies included oil painting, quilting, crocheting, antiquing, cooking, gardening, square dancing, playing the organ for church services, and reading. During their 59 ½ years of marriage, Hullon and she  enjoyed raising cattle and horses, many fishing and hunting trips, and they traveled to many places and enjoyed time with friends.

Rosalie left this life in the early morning hours of February 3, 2023 and now enjoys the company of our Lord.  She is survived by her daughter, Della Hill and her husband David Hill of Eugene, Oregon, and her son, Stacey Gunter and his wife Robin Gunter of Woodward, Oklahoma, 5 grandchildren, Andrew Hill, Alex Hill, Elizabeth Stewart, Tanner Gunter and Madeline Gunter, granddaughter-in-law Liz Hill, and 4 great-grandchildren, Abigail Hill, Caroline Hill, Kaden Hill, and Amara Stewart, 3 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and in 2022, her sister Betty Wilson.

A graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Eugene, Oregon.
