Marilyn Chapman Kolb

Obituary of Marilyn (Lynn) Jane Chapman Kolb

Marilyn (Lynn) Jane Chapman Kolb died Wednesday, November 3, 2022.  She was one week shy of celebrating her 100th birthday.  Lynn was born November 10, 1922 in Paterson NJ, daughter of Thomas Blanchfield Chapman and Ethel Dalzell Chapman.
Lynn and her brother Bob grew up during the Great Depression and learned the value of family, friends and appreciating the simple joys of life.  She and her brother Bob were very close.  Marilyn was active in school and church groups.  She especially enjoyed time at the New Jersey shore where she and Bob spent their summers.  Her love of the shore stayed with her as an adult.
She married Fredric Edward Kolb in April, 1943 a few months before he deployed for the Pacific campaign of WWII.  They were married for 42 years until his death in 1985.  Together they traveled extensively throughout the United States in RVs.  They also enjoyed cruises and trips to Europe, including one as passengers aboard a working freighter for 54 days. They enjoyed their second home in the Florida Keys and, of course, the family spent many summer days at the Jersey shore.
Lynn graduated from Montclair State Teachers College with a BA in 1943.  She was a cheerleader in college and participated in many campus clubs and activities.  During her student teaching assignment, she met her future husband. Lynn taught Social Studies in Junior High School in Morris Township and Madison NJ.  She had a lifelong interest in reading poetry and was a member of the New York City Browning Society.
Lynn had a deep and abiding faith which was her joy and her strength.  She taught Sunday School, organized Vacation Bible Schools, and served as an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Bernardsville, NJ.  She also served as a Deacon at Central Presbyterian Church in Eugene.
In 2005 Lynn moved from her home in Bernardsville, NJ to Eugene, Oregon to be closer to family.  She enjoyed her life at Cascade Manor and made many friends there.  She enjoyed meeting friends for dinner in the dining room and looked forward to her Sunday brunch group.  The residents and staff at Cascade Manor gave her great joy.
Lynn and Fred had three sons: Fredric Robert Kolb (Mary Jo); Ronald Lewis Kolb (deceased 1973); and Randall Chapman Kolb (Patricia). She had four grandchildren: David Kolb (Diana); Jean Marie Kolb; Katharine Kolb; and Alex Kolb.  Her great-grandchildren gave her special joy: Madison Kolb; Kelsey Kolb; and Chapman Kolb.  Her brother, Robert Chapman, passed away in 2017.
A service will be held at a later date with burial at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.  To honor and remember Lynn spend time with friends, read a poem, and look for joy everywhere you can.
