Myrtle Yates

Obituary of Myrtle Yates

Myrtle (Norman) Yates was born on Jan. 10, 1928, in Hemp Wallace, Arkansas to Molly and Sam Norman, and passed away on December 5, 2022. She lived in Arkansas until the age of 14 when they moved to Finn Rock, Oregon. She completed High School at McKenzie High, and then went on to business school. She married Frank Yates on May 2nd, 1949, and they lived in Springfield. They enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and hunting together before his death in 2004.

Our Mom was a lady who always looked out for everyone else. Being from the South, she loved to feed people and was a wonderful cook.  She could sew like a dream and made many of her girls’ clothes. She was the ultimate stay at home Mom. Her house always had the most immaculate yard in the neighborhood, and she took great pride in keeping it beautiful.

Her brother, Bill Norman preceded her in death, as well as her parents, her stepfather, Elmer Taber, and stepbrother, Ben Taber, She is survived by her daughters, Darlene Butterfield and her husband Guy of Eugene, and Glenda Corbett and her husband Steve of Portland, and step brother Earl Taber of Springfield. She has four granddaughters, Casey Butterfield of Hillsboro, OR, Kelly Scates and her husband Casey of Eugene,  Nicole Guttridge and her husband Brandt of Sacramento, CA and Lindsay Reiser and her husband Zach or Hubbard OR. She also has three great grandchildren, Katie, Ben and Brody. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Norman, and many nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no service, so go out for some Chinese food and have a good time. We would especially like to thank the employees of Bayberry Commons who always treated her with kindness and love, especially in her last days. Brighton Hospice was wonderful, also. We will miss you Mom!
