Obituary of Allen James Glass
Allen James Glass was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 21, 1931 to Howard and Laretta (Babcock) Glass. He grew up in Detroit and attended Detroit High School where he received the Detroit National Scholar Award. Allen passed away in Eugene, Oregon on October 21, 2022. He spent his last few months at The Springs at Greer Garden and was well cared for by their staff and Signature Hospice in his final days. Allen was 90 years old and lived a full life.
Allen joined the United States Air Force in January, 1949. He served in the Air Force at Shaw Airforce Base in South Caroline and Scott Air Base in Illinois and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant on January 30, 1955. After leaving the Air Force, Allen joined the Knights of Columbus on October 31, 1955. Allen worked as an Electrician and was a member of the IBEW Union. He worked for Chrysler Corporation and helped build and maintain casinos in Las Vegas for many years. Allen received numerous commendations from his employers and was a continuous learner of many things.
Allen was married a short time prior to joining the Air Force and had two daughters, Barbara and Carol from that marriage. He was also married to his loving wife Matilda (Carol) for many years and subsequently lived in several states with her including California, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and eventually Harrisburg, Oregon where they retired and lived together until her passing. They did not have any children but helped neighbors and friends with their children as surrogate grandparents. They attended St. Helen's Catholic Church in Junction City, Oregon for many years.
In 2012, Allen met Joyce Ann Vitus at St. Helen's and they both attended Viking Sal Senior Center in Junction City. After a short courtship, they married on February 9, 2013. Joyce and Allen spent their almost 6 years together at his Harrisburg home and enjoyed many family gatherings and all of Joyce's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joyce passed away on Thanksgiving Day, 2018.
Allen is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Judge and Carol Davis, as well as his six stepchildren from his marriage to Joyce. Those children are Nadine (Tom) Core, Gordon (Teresa) Vitus, Maryann Fauble, Greg (Teresa) Vitus, Michael (Delynn) Vitaus, and Troy (Annie) Vitus. There are 15 grandchildren and dozens of great grandchildren.
