A family celebration of life was held on August 7th for Wanda Faye Walker of Springfield, Oregon, who succumbed in July to a long illness. She would have been 80 years old at the end of August.
Wanda was born in Weiser, Idaho on August 30, 1942 to Reuben Heinrich and Helen Ross Heinrich. She married in June of 1962 and subsequently moved to the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon. She has two children. Shelley Walker lives in Monroe, Utah. Craig Walker and his wife, Sheri, are currently in Cheney, Washington.
Wanda was a very accomplished woman who held a Cosmetology license before graduating from Clackamas Community College in 1979 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She also was certified as a Pharmacy Technician and was a member of several altruistic and singles groups.
Wanda was very artistic and her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, painting, and drawing. Her favorite place to be was on the beach whether it was beachcombing, playing in the tide pools, or simply watching the ocean and enjoying the fresh salty air. She was a bit of a rock hound and collected geodes, agates and anything else unusual. She had a real eye for beauty and sought it wherever it could be found.
Wanda was injured in 2003 and moved to the Aster Apartments in 2009, where she quickly developed deep and lasting friendships. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, two children, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two nieces and their families, as well as several beloved friends she considered family at Aster Apartments.
Wanda had a soft spot for animals in need, especially her cats, the latest of whom was Cuddles. We ask that if you wish to donate in her name, that you do so to a local pet rescue or the humane society.
She will be greatly missed.
