Obituary of Helen Ferguson

Helen Ferguson, 97, of Springfield, has died at home. Born in Wichita, Kansas to Otto and Gusta (Kroeker) Souders, she married Robert “Bob” Ferguson June 24, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. Helen graduated from East High School and Wichita State University with a degree in English and Music Education. Bob and Helen moved to Springfield in 1947. She taught in the Springfield school district for several years before staying home to raise her children. Helen was a member of Ebbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Mu Phi Epsilon (Music), and Eugene Country Club, where she and Bob enjoyed many years of golf. Helen also enjoyed time with friends, reading, following her favorite sports teams and watching birds, cats and squirrels in her yard. Helen is survived by her son, Paul Ferguson (wife Anna) of Eugene; daughter Jane Kreitzberg (husband Jeff) of Walla Walla, WA; niece Carol (Michael) Hoppe; nephew David (Dina) Ferguson; 3 step granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren. We are grateful to Cascade Hospice and private caregivers for their loving care of mom. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 10 at 11 AM at Ebbert United Methodist Church, 6th and C St Springfield.
