I knew Herb for over 40 years. He was a delightful man, full of fun and mischief. Herb was a friend and happy to share his expertise and expansive library, a particular help to me in writing a paper for an ornithological journal. I'll miss his booming voice at the Eugene Christmas Count, a mainstay for so many years.
