On SEP 7, 2021, Eldon Allen Latham “...slipped the surly bonds of earth, and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings...” reached “...and touched the face of God...” entering the embrace of his Lord.
Eldon is survived by his wife Jimmie of 65 years, his son Kenneth, daughter Kelly, grandchildren: Jessica, Travis, Ashlee, Chad, Matthew, Michelle, Kevin, and 13 great grandchildren.
Eldon was born SEP 30, 1933 to William I. Latham and Goldie M. Latham, and had 1 older brother Irvine LeRoy Latham.
Eldon grew up in Eugene, OR, attended and earned a degree in aeronautical engineering at Oregon State University in 1956. Following graduation Eldon went to work for NASA, at Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA where he became an accomplished research engineer. He published articles, a book, and produced 2 patents in aerodynamic design. He served with a humble heart and many times with humor, making long lasting friendships as he provided his team with support. Eldon served as a Deacon, and then as an Elder at the Church of Christ which met at Sunnyvale, CA, and later as an Elder at the Church of Christ meeting at Coburg Road in Eugene, OR. He was a knowledgeable man of wisdom and compassion, and like King David of the Old Testament, a man after God’s own heart. He was always there to help others, to counsel, and to comfort.
Eldon was an extraordinary family man. He was kind, compassionate, and loving husband and father. Always ready to be a servant, leader, strong, firm, yet so giving. Eldon was a vibrant example of unconditional love.
Eldon was also a man of the outdoors, who had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor fun. Those of us fortunate to be taught woodcraft and skills by him are in his debt.
Eldon will be missed and will be forever in our hearts. Eldon was a great man and his legacy will be preserved in stories in the years to come.
