Adam Gutierrez

Obituary of Adam John Gutierrez

Adam John “AJ” Gutierrez, beloved son, brother, uncle of Springfield Oregon passed away on July 27, 2021.

Adam was born in Denver Colorado on May 31, 1970, to Maria Hernandez and Adam Gutierrez.  He grew up in Fort Lupton Colorado and Springfield Oregon while attending elementary school in Colorado then middle and high school in Oregon.

He loved the outdoors so much he left high school to work on a fishing boat in Alaska for a season.  When he returned, he finished school and was soon hired by Barrett Business Services where he began his career in loss control.  He worked for Barrett Business services for 20 years before working with OSHA as a Compliance Safety Officer doing the same line of work.

Adam had a love for the outdoors, his community, politics, music, family and sports. He had an incredible work ethic, a drive to continuously give to the community through volunteering for SMART, Big Brother Big Sister, Adelante Si/Fiesta Latina, and multiple local committees/boards for local events throughout his lifetime, shared his love for music through DJ’ing Breakfast with the Blues and GTR Radio with KRVM.  He loved his family especially his mother, enjoyed family discussions, a great political debate and watching football, the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Team or our local Hockey Teams.

He traveled all over Oregon to site see, take pictures, hike, camp, bow hunt, bike, fish, ski, raft, swim and ventured to Alaska to work on a fishing boat for a season.   He did everything from BMX racing at a young age, jiu-jitsu, to building classic muscle cars from nothing, and learning how wine was made, and what made a quality wine.  He was gifted in drawing and could account for hours of drawings as a teen/young adult and had an eye for taking pictures.

All of this was small in comparison to his ability to talk to anyone.  He loved talking to people, getting to know them and looking to see what he had in common with them.  People were his passion as was networking.  He had the ability to be serious and funny in one sitting and strived to make people feel important, loved and that they mattered.  This grew as he came to know and love Jesus.

Adam is survived by his mother Maria Huffman (Stephen Huffman), Sisters Roxanne Tinoco (Jairo Tinoco), Jaime Silva (John Green), Silda Silva, Sarah Kraft, Rosie Huffman, Brothers Jon Huffman (Rebecca Huffman), Nicolas Huffman, nieces, nephews and grand nieces, nephews and is predeceased by his Father Adam Gutierrez, and brother Joe Gilbert Rivera.

His celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00 pm on August 21, 2021, at Calvary Open Bible Springfield Oregon. Pastor Joe Tucker of Cottage Grove will lead the service.  In leu of flowers, please consider donation in his honor to KRVM, MWMC, McKenzie Heart Associates, Providence St. Vincent’s Medical Center Heart and Transplant and LVAD Portland Oregon, or any local community program that supports children such as the SMART program, or Big Brother Big Sister.
