Today, January 15th, 2021, we celebrate the life of Elias ‘Lee’ Gillett who passed away after a long fight with cancer on January 6th, 2021. In his final months, he was surrounded by family, with love and with prayer. Lee is survived by his children Ryan, Stephen, Jason and Melissa and his brother Alfred and sisters Solange and Leyla. Lee is also survived by his 13 grandchildren to whom he was known as ‘Jeddo’.
Lee was raised in the El Mina district of Tripoli, Lebanon and immigrated to the USA at age 17. He lived in Texas and California for the first 35 years before moving to Oregon in 1986 with the family. Lee was known for his work ethic, his deep faith and for his entrepreneurial spirit. After opening a popular restaurant in Eugene with his wife Susan, they made a life putting smiles on the faces of thousands of people daily with the food and ice cream that they prepared.
Lee worked tirelessly to provide for his family over the years, overcoming hardship while instilling a sense of faith and resilience in each of his children. He was a grandfather ‘Jeddo’ to 13 and he loved each of his grandchildren with all of his heart.
We celebrate the life of Lee as a husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Lee joins Susan, whom we lost in July 2020. They are together again, at peace with our Lord.
Truly, truly I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life; he does not come to judgment, but has passed from death to life (Jn 5.24, cf. Jn 6.29–58).
With Love and Memory Eternal,
Your Loving Family
