William (Bill) R. Nielsen, a life-long resident of Junction City, Oregon passed away on December 10, 2020 at the age of 81. He was born in Junction City, Oregon in old Doc Rogers office on July 4th, 1939 to Jim and Bessie Nielsen.
Bill worked at International Paper in Vaughn, Oregon. He entered the U.S. Army in 1963 and was stationed in Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany through 1965 in the 4th Battalion, 41st Artillery. Upon returning to Oregon, he attended Lane Community College studying Forestry and continued on to Oregon State University where he majored in Agriculture.
Upon completion of his college education, Bill was employed in the US Forest Service his entire career at the Willamette National Forest (NF), Oakridge, Umatilla NF, Pendleton, Olympic NF, Quilcene, WA, Siuslaw NF, Alsea Ranger District (RD) as a Timber Sale Officer. It was during this time that Bill married Terri Krupka on December 21, 1985 in Eugene, Oregon. Bill transferred to the Malheur NF, Long Creek RD, John Day, Oregon where he retired in 1997. After retirement, Bill & Terri returned to the Junction City area. Bill loved his farm and being outdoors, enjoying time hunting, fishing, raising livestock and gardening. He was an avid reader of all subjects, but particularly relished reading about the Civil War, WWII, American Revolution, early western history, poetry, and Oregon history, always enjoying a lively discussion about what he had read.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Jim & Bessie Nielsen. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Terri Nielsen, and a sister, Nora Wozniak of Arizona, two nieces and one great nephew of California. Also surviving are five brothers-in-law/six sisters-in-law, along with fifteen nieces & nephews, sixteen great-nieces & nephews, and one great-great niece.
Visitation at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home, 480 W. 7th Avenue, Junction City, Oregon November 22, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 am (masks required). Immediately following a graveside service will be held at the Danish Cemetery, High Pass Road, Junction City, Oregon.
