Obituary of Kay Musgrove
Kay Musgrove died of heart failure on Saturday, February 19th while vacationing with her family in Hawaii. She was 65. Kay was born July 16th, 1934, in Boise City, Oklahoma, to Charles and Marion Graham Lucas. She lived in San Jose, California from 1938 to 1946. She moved to Sutherlin, Oregon in 1946 and graduated from Sutherlin High School in 1950. She then moved to Eugene and attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1954 at the age of 19, the youngest in her class. She married Wayne Musgrove in Eugene on July 3rd, 1954. Kay was a licensed funeral director. She and her husband owned and operated Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene and Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. She retired in 1989. Her interests included volunteer work with numerous organizations including the American Red Cross Meals On Wheels program and FOOD for Lane County's Food Rescue Express. She also enjoyed traveling and was an avid UO sports fan. Kay belonged to many organizations. She belonged to the Church of Christ all of her life. She was Past President of the Eugene Downtown Lioness Club; Past State Secretary of the Oregon Lions Auxiliary; President-Elect of Sacred Heart Hospital Guild Base Area #2; Former Board Member of the Eugene Hearing and Speech Center; Past President of the Eugene Chapter of Zonta International; member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter CA; Sacred Heart Hospital's Sister Theodore Marie Society; Tri-Pass Ski Club; Order of the Eastern Star Blue River Chapter #158; Order of the Amaranth; Daughters of the Nile, Nydia Temple; White Shrine of Jerusalem Bethlehem Chapter; Life Member ot the University of Oregon Alumni Association, and the University of Oregon President's Circle. She received the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation Helen Keller Award and was nominated in 1962 for the Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Wayne; her children: Mark and Diane Musgrove of Eugene, Janet and Mickey Elfers of West Linn, and Jeffrey and Sharon Musgrove of Eugene; her sister, Dixie Sherman of Eugene; five grandchildren: Molly and Peter Elfers, and Matthew, Nicholas and John Musgrove. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Schmid and five nieces and nephews: Doug and John Musgrove, Becky Irby, Valerie Davis and Vickie Perkins. Memorial contributions may be made to River Road Church of Christ, the Children's Miracle Network/Lions Guest House or the Musgrove Scholarship Endowment Fund in care or the University of Oregon.
