Ward ChristensenA memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene for Ward Lee Christensen of Eugene, who died Dec. 26 of age-related causes. He was 89. Private burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eugene.He was born June 15, 1920, in Laurel, Mont., to Fred and Elsie Peterson Christensen. He married Barbara McClintock Sept. 12, 1953, in Eugene.He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot during World War II, and flew F6F Hellcat aircraft.He was a foreign service officer for 30 years in the U.S. Department of State.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sarah Cox of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Fred of Bend and Matthew of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Catharine Kaba and Joann Nugent, both of Eugene, and Jean Coyle of Lincoln City; and five grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
